Meet Sarah Connell
Meet Sarah Connell, first author signed for the Speculation Publications Utter Speculation Novella Series.
Sarah’s novella will be announced in a few months when we launch a crowdfunding campaign but what we can tell you is that it is a dark but fun speculation on an enduring legend.
Sarah is the author of the Project Awakening Series. She has a tapestry of unique and fun experiences informing her style, from a childhood surrounded by the arts, to jobs in museums, dude ranches, and painting pet portraits. We at Speculation Publications, however, were most excited to discover Sarah studied in Strasbourg, France, home of the Dancing Plague. Yes, the subject of Spec Pub’s very first collection of utter speculation. It’s almost as if it’s meant to be…
So, we asked her more.
How long have you been writing?
I took creative writing courses in my senior year of college as extracurriculars but soon after, I was pulled back into my thesis work. A few years ago, a writer friend coaxed me into picking it back up and in a crazy six-month period, I wrote three books of Project Awakening. Since then, I’ve written almost nonstop and love it, winning the Geek Partnership Contest and placing stories in magazines and anthologies. I’m very excited to have my first novella published with Speculation Publications.
What are your favorite genres to write in?
I like to write speculative fiction with a mix of sci fi, fantasy and horror.
What are some of your favorite books?
My all time favorite is the first book I can remember reading by myself in the school library - The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K Le Guin. But I’ve discovered so many recently that I absolutely love - Amatka by Karin Tidbeck, Elder Race and Walking to Aldebaran by Adrian Tchaikovsky, The Broken Earth series by N.K. Jemisin, and Spear by Nicola Griffith - to name a few.
What can you tell us about the Project Awakening Series?
It’s a cozy sci fi story that explores family bonds within a profession-based class system by way of an inter-generational secret. There’s a lot of mysteries to unravel, cozy worldbuilding, and (of course) surprise twists. Book four in the series is in the works!
