Our First Novella of Utter Spec and Our First Kickstarter to launch it

“In the year 1284 on the day of Saints John and Paul on 26 June 130 children born in Hamelin were lured by a piper clothed in many colours to Calvary near the Koppen, and lost” -  an inscription on a house known as Rattenfängerhaus in Hamelin

The editors at Speculation Publications have a passion for unsolved mysteries, spooky history and urban legends. Having founded the press with the Collection of Utter Speculation anthologies, it was a natural progression to want to dig in deeper on some of these prevailing enigmas. The first Novella of Utter Speculation needed to be a big topic that encompassed as many aspects of the Utter Speculation series as possible. Historical, magical, dark, and emotional, a blend of supernatural and practical, that leaves readers wondering if this really could be the answer to a long enduring mystery.

Enter Sarah Connell, author of the Project Awakening Series. With a her own history with medieval folklore Connell’s offered us a novella of utter speculation exploring one of LC’s dream topics. The Pied Piper of Hamelin.

Pay the Piper is a twisty dark fantasy historical speculation into the prevailing mystery of the pied piper and just what happened in that little town of Hamelin, hundreds of years ago,. Connell beautifully weaves themes of family, love and secrets within the legend of the pied piper, giving new depth, spark and imagination to a centuries old story.

In the past we’ve always used our own well of resources to make our books great, but we are expanding and with that, so is our funding needs. In order to make sure this book gets all the treatment that it deserves, we are launching our first Kickstarter, November 18th, the same day we open submissions for our next book.

While our goal is set to $500 and that will ensure we get this book made and delivered on time, our stretch goal of $2000 will help us establish the series and make sure that Pay the Piper has every benefit we can give it. We have prize tiers at ever level, from $3 - $500 and a few surprises along the way.
